Mubarak receives La francophone Secertary General
Egypt-Regional, Politics, 1/8/2002

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Monday received Secretary General of La francophone Dr. Boutros Ghali.

Following the meeting, Ghali told reporters he reviewed the activities of the organization and the reasons behind the postponement of its summit, slated for last October, till October this year, pointing out that it will be hosted by Beirut and all arrangements have been taken in this respect.

He said he briefed the president on the other activities of the organization especially in the field of cooperation with regional and international organizations, especially the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic conference (OIC).

The meeting tackled dialogue among cultures, he said, referring to an agreement between the organization and the Arab League and another agreement between the organizations and the OIC within the framework of dialogue between francophone and Arab culture.

One of the main reasons behind terrorism is the absence of dialogue among civilizations, cultures, religions and languages, he said asserting that international terrorism cannot be fought using military force.

The weapon of culture and civilization should be used instead, he said, adding that La francophone has started such dialogue even before September 11.
