Israeli- Palestinian meeting had no tangible results
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/8/2002

Israeli sources stressed the failure of the tripartite security meeting held between Israel and the Palestinian authority at an American participation.

The US envoy to the region Anthony Zinni said that the tripartite security meetings will continue and he will brief the American officials on the results of these meetings.

Meantime, the Israeli side concentrated on the issue of the Palestinian side involvement in the ship weapons case that Israel claimed to be loaded by weapons sent to the Palestinian authority.

The Israeli President Moshe Katsav has called on the Palestinian Authority to disarm the Palestinians and accused it of escalating conditions and of attacking Israeli targets.

Meantime the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon on Monday morning met with the official in charge of foreign relations at the European Union Javier Solana to brief him with what the Israeli radio called the involvement of the Palestinian authority in the " ship weapon case."

For his part, the Israeli defense minister Benjamin Bin Aliazer asked the European officials to continue pressuring the chairman of the Palestinian authority to fight what he called terrorism. Bin Aliazer said there are Palestinian sides that are still " planning to carry out operations at targets inside Israel."
