Casablanca Marathon: victory of Moroccan Khanmouni and Russian Ivanova

Moroccan Rachid Khanmouni and Russian Marina Ivanova won the fifth international marathon of Casablanca held Sunday.

Khanmouni covered the 42.16 Km race in 2.12:21 while among the female participants Ivanova clocked 2.57:57.

In the 16 km race organized on the same occasion, the top ranks for men and women were both held by Moroccans, namely Said El-Wardi and Zhour El Kamch.

Racers from many countries, including Ethiopia, France, Russia, Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic participated in the race.

The Casablanca marathon is part of the Euro-Mediterranean grand prix, set up lately under a partnership accord between the organizers of the marathons of Casablanca, Berlin (Germany) and Palermo (Italy).

The first phase of the grand prix will take place in Palermo in September 2002, the second in Berlin in 2003 and the third in Casablanca in 2004.
