Egyptian diplomat underscores importance of Mubarak's visit to Morocco
Egypt-Morocco, Politics, 1/5/2002

Egyptian ambassador in Rabat, Achraf Zaazaa, underscored as outstanding the official visit that President Housni Moubarak of Egypt will be paying to Morocco Jan.11-13.

Mubarak's visit to Morocco and the holding of the 5th session of the Moroccan-Egyptian high joint commission, under the co-chairmanship of King Mohammed VI and President Mubarak, are of great importance to bilateral relations, the Egyptian diplomat told Radio Cairo Friday.

The visit will provide opportunity for consultations on issues of common interest, the Egyptian diplomat said, adding that the two parties will discuss many political and economic issues, with focus on the evolution of the situation in the Middle-East, and the impact of the terror attacks of September 11.

The meeting of the high joint commission will be preceded by several preparatory meetings of sector commissions, including the commission for commerce which will probe means to increase trade exchanges and joint investments, and to encourage the two states' businessmen to expand their commercial and economic activities, Achraf Zaazaa added.
it is expected to exchange the documents of the additional protocol of the free trade zone that provides for adding 19 Egyptian, and 19 Moroccan commodities to the list of customs-free items.

The meetings will also deal with ways of developing cooperation between the two countries in the industrial fields and the new energy.

On the occasion of President Mubarak's visit, it is also expected to sign an agreement on the inauguration of a maritime line.

After he recalled that trade exchanges reached an average US$ 60 Mln in the past years, he said he was confident that the 5th session will have a positive political and economic outcome and will give cooperation between the two states a new breath.

At the political level, Zaazaa said, the two states have converging viewpoints on international and regional issues, especially on the Palestinian issue. King Mohammed VI and President Moubarak are constantly in touch and consult each other continuously, he said.

The ambassador also announced that Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa, is expected in Cairo next Tuesday for talks with his Egyptian peer, Ahmed Maher, on preparations for Moubarak's trip to Morocco and the meeting of the High joint Commission.
