ISESCO holds international colloquy on image of Islam in western media
Regional, Religion, 1/5/2002

The Islamic Educational, scientific and cultural organization (ISESCO/based in Rabat) will hold this January 9-10 an international colloquy to study means to correct the image of Islam in the western media.

The conference will bring together intellectuals and media professionals from Arab, Islamic and Western countries (USA, Britain and France). Discussions will probe how western media view Islamic religion and civilization, the issue of neutrality in media reports, how political stances impact information wording and whether it is possible to have a free and fair media space.

The organization, an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), says in a release the event is part of its efforts to restore the true image of Islam in the west and bring a rational answer to libelous campaigns waged by some media against Islam and its civilization.
