I will vote for Moroccanity of Sahara, father of separatists chief asserts
Morocco, Politics, 1/5/2002

Khlili Ben Mohamed Al-Bachir Rguibi, father of Mohamed Abdelaziz, so-called president of the puppet Sahrawi republic (RASD), asserted that if a referendum was held in the Sahara he would automatically vote for the Moroccan identity of the territory, like any other Moroccan citizen who is proud of his citizenship and attached to his country's territorial integrity.

"it is crystal clear that I will vote for the country I belong to. Therefore, I will cast my vote only to my country, Morocco, Rguibi said in an interview published Friday by international daily Acharq Al-Awsat.

The defense of the Moroccan identity of the Sahara falls in the frame of Jihad (holy war), like all the other sacred values of the Kingdom, including the monarchy regime, he insisted.

There are two issues that cannot be object to any questioning, the Jihad and the monarchy that will always find persons ready to sacrifice everything for its preservation, he went on.

As to his relationship with his son, he said although he does not deny his kinship with the separatist, he utterly disapproves his deeds that harm his country. He added that if it happens that he meets his son, he would listen to him and respond to his arguments with unshakable truths.

He confided that he last saw his son in 1972, when he was part of the royal armed forces on the front. He recalled that at the time, Mohamed Abdelaziz was attending university in Rabat. It was at this period that he decided to join the separatists, without informing me about his decision, he said.

Rguibi, who is settled in the central Moroccan city of Kasbat Tadla, voiced gratitude to King Mohammed VI who had honored him, he said, by granting him an audience during his royal trip to the city.

He equally surveyed his struggle for the liberation of his country and for the defense of the Moroccan identity of the Sahara and said he enrolled in the liberation army when the latter was readying to fight the colonizer in the Moroccan Sahara. He recalled that he was part of the delegation that went to Rabat in 1956 to renew allegiance to the late King Mohammed V, after his return from exile.
