New Baath Party leaderships in Syria

The London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat said in its Friday's issue that sides concerned in Damascus are embarking on forming new leaderships of the Baath party branches in the provinces including the secretaries of these branches, in light of the results of the recently made Baath Party elections and also following the formation of the new Syrian Cabinet.

The paper quoted well-informed Syrian sources as saying that in parallel with the process of forming leaderships of the Baath party branches, evaluation has been made for the performance of governors after one year of their appointment in preparation to exempt many of them from their posts, transfer others and also to appoint four new governors.

The sources attributed exemption several governors from their posts to their inability to cope with the process of developments and modernization in their provinces.
