Amman is the capital of Arab culture

On January 1st, 2002, Amman received the new year as a capital for the Arab culture as it will be along this year abundant of various cultural and artistic activities including seminars, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions and drama performances, cinema films, and local and Arab poetry evenings and festivals. Parallel art and cultural activities in other Jordanian provinces will be also held..

On this occasion the higher national committee which supervises these activities has set April 18 a date for the official inauguration of the work program "Amman: a capital for Arab culture." The committee sources said that invitations were extended to several media, artistic and cultural figures from the Arab states to attend and take part in the activities of the great Arab event.

For its part, the secretariat of Greater Amman has declared an abundant program to commemorate the event. This includes film shows, seminars and musical evenings, cultural publications about Amman, inaugurating a street for culture and holding Amman's Franchophonic days and Amman's first festival for culture and the arts.
