Drastic deterioration for Jordanian underground waters

A Jordanian official report has unveiled the grave condition of underground waters which has been drastically exploited.
The report which was issued by the Jordanian ministry of waters and irrigation said that underground water reduction average in Jordan ranged after 1985 until 2000 between 25 meters in the valleys adjoining the Jordan valley and 27 meters in al-Yarmouk basin, while "salt" rate increased for the same period of time between 60 part per million in al-Yarmouk basin and 592 part per one million in al-Hufer basin.
The report considered underground waters as the main source for various uses in Jordan.. It indicated that industrial development, population growth and the increase and expansion in agricultural projects and increasing demands for waters caused the plundering of most water basins existed in Jordan.
