Moussa: Success of Zinni's mission depends on Israeli cooperation
Regional, Politics, 1/3/2002
The success of the mission to the region by the US peace envoy Anthony Zinni depends on the cooperation of the Israeli government, said Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa on Wednesday.
"Sharon's recent remarks showed that he was not ready for any political step that would pave the way for a political settlement," added Moussa.
On his visit to Turkey, Moussa said that he would visit Ankara on January 6-7 upon an invitation from Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem for talks with Turkish officials on issues of mutual concern.
Moussa described as groundless reports that some Arab leaders had reservations on taking part in the Arab summit to be held in Beirut in March, stressing the importance of holding the summit on time.
He said he backed the call by Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz in which he urged the Arab states to stop appealing to world countries to help them attain their rights.
The Arab League chief also said that he would visit Iraq as an Arab League member-state at a date to be set later.
