Policies obstruct reaching a final agreement with Palestinians
Egypt-Palestine, Politics, 1/3/2002
"Egypt, under the leadership of President Mubarak, is committed to assisting the Palestinian people to help them restore their legitimate rights and achieve just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East," President Hosni Mubarak's adviser for political affairs Osama Al-Baz said.
During a meeting with a group of newly graduated doctors on Wednesday in a Port Said camp, Baz said the policy of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is based on fabricating crises against the Palestinians in order to block any solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The presidential adviser rejected the call that linked Islam with terrorism, pointing out that Islam is a religion of peace, and that the Zionist movement was the first to use terrorism against the Palestinians. He said that President Mubarak' s call for holding an international conference to combat terrorism remained a viable idea to uproot terrorism.
Baz said the policy of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon depends on stirring crises with Palestinians in order to preclude reaching a final agreement on solving Palestinian cause.
He said in spite of the mounting violence and counter-violence in the Palestinians territories in the past stage, they have had some positive effects mainly the emergence of voices in the Israeli society calling for establishing a Palestinian state as this is the sole solution for establishing peace between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.
He expected that the voice of reason would dominate in the upcoming stage between Israelis and Palestinians for the interests of both parties and through keeping away from extremist policies.
He said Islam is a religion of peace adding that Zionist movement was the first party to use terrorism for intimidating Palestinians.
