Khartoum: peace is coming
Sudan, Politics, 1/2/2002

The Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has stressed that peace in Sudan is eventually coming as a fruit for the government's efforts and various regional and international initiatives."

In a speech the Sudanese president delivered on the occasion of the 46th anniversary of Sudan's independence, al-Bashir said:" peace is coming because it will be the outcome of our patient and steadfastness before the expanding war and the heavy sacrifices made." Al-Bashir accused sides he did not identify of being responsible for the war and its consequences because these sides support the rebellion movement and provide it with material and moral support.

He said that the people's movement which is led by col. John Garang is not changeable, rather confuses all those who seek peace even the allies of this movement and this is due to its changing stances towards peace initiatives. He urged this movement to prove seriousness in its position towards peaceful initiatives.
