Yemen welcomes joining GCC 's several establishments

Yemen on Monday welcomed the decision taken by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC )to permit it joining certain GCC establishments as the first step towards full membership, Yemen has been demanding since long years.

The Yemeni news agency Sabaa quoted the Yemeni Cabinet as saying in its ordinary meeting held on Monday that the Yemeni Arab Republic which occupies an integrated part of the harmonized " tissue" of the Arab Peninsula and the Arab Gulf is inspiring in the coming phase for further consolidation of relations linking it to the GCC member states so as to expand areas of cooperation, integration, partnership and merging.

An official at the Yemeni cabinet described the GCC's summit decision as a positive step by the GCC leaders that complies with the inclination of the political leadership in Yemen in seeking to join the GCC membership.

The official added that his country's government is confident that other steps will be taken with the aim of giving Yemen the chance to effectively take part in economic field and other areas of cooperation in order to attain integration and merging between Yemen and the GCC member states.

To this end analysts in Muscat said that the GCC summit decision means permitting Yemen to gradually joining the GCC after enabling it qualifying its economy the way happened for countries seeking to join the European Union.

Worthy to mention that in conclusion of their annual summit held in Muscat December 31st, 2001, the GCC leaders agreed to Yemen's joining certain non political establishments of the GCC. They are the council of the health ministers, the education office, the council of the ministers of labor and social affairs and the tournament of the GCC Football Cup.
