Iran renews backing for Syria
Syria-Iran, Politics, 1/1/2002

The spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry Hameed Rida Asefi has renewed Iran's support for Syria and her just stances, stressing his country's backing to Lebanon, the Palestinian question and to the militant movements which defend their lands and independence.

In a press conference he held in Tehran on Monday, Asefi criticized Israel's exploitation of the incidents of September 11, 2001 in the US in escalating its crimes and brutal massacres against the Palestinian people, calling on the Arabs and Muslims the need to maintain solid stances in defense of their just rights.

Asefi stressed the rejection of his country and the Organization of the Islamic conference to enlisting the Arab and Islamic militant and resistance movements in the terrorist lists. He stressed his country's opposition to striking any Arab or Islamic country under the pretext of fighting terrorism.
