Yemen to join the Gulf very soon
Yemen-Gulf, Politics, 1/1/2002
Well-informed Omani sources have stressed on Monday that a meeting including the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Oman will be held by the beginning of next week in Muscat, away from the mass media to discuss steps provided for Yemen's joining the membership of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). A matter which has almost become an established fact.
The same sources added said that Yemen's gradual joining of the GCC will start from certain GCC political and developmental committees and then will be followed by joining economic activities.
The same sources also explained that the forthcoming ministerial meeting which will last for two days will be also followed by a visit to be held by the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh to each of al-Riyadh and Abu Dhabi.
For his part the Yemeni ambassador to Oman Ali Hassan al-Kaaf welcomed the GCC discussion of Yemen's joining the GCC, but simultaneously denied his country to have had applied again for that.
Both the UAE and Qatar welcomed Yemen's joining the GCC while the Omani foreign affairs minister Youssef Bin Alwai refused to comment on that matter.
