Israel escalates conditions by assassinating 6 Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 1/1/2002

The Israeli military and political concentration is on liquidating the Palestinian Intifada, the Palestinian authority has stressed saying that the government of Ariel Sharon is responsible for the escalated conditions through implanting ambushes and assassinating six Palestinians in Gaza.

A spokesman for the Palestinian authority stressed that at a time when calm prevails all Palestinian areas since more than two weeks and after statements made by the US secretary of state Colin Powell on that the US envoy Anthony Zinni is coming to the region, Israel has once again and implanted ambushes on Sunday evening near Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun and this resulted in killing 6 Palestinians.

Palestinian sources said the six shot Palestinians who were killed in Beit Hanoun were Ismael Abu al-Qumsan ( 28 year old), Ali Muhanna ( 27 year old), Muhammad Salah ( 27 year old) and they are members in the Fatah movement, while Salah Eddine groups. The military wing of the People's Resistance Committees vowed to continue resistance until liberation is attained.

Meantime, the patriarch of Jerusalem Michael Sabah has stressed in Bethlehem during a demonstration of protest against the Israeli occupation that the key to solution in the region lies in ending the Israeli occupation and restoring back the lands to the Palestinian territories.

Before a large mass of Palestinian demonstrators, Patriarch Sabah called on Israel to recognize this fact, explaining to journalists that the aim of this demonstration is to confirm the right of the Palestinian people to their land and the need of Israel's recognition of this right so as the region to enjoy peace and security.

Sabah was on the front of the demonstration which was organized by the churches council in Palestine and started from the downtown of Bethlehem towards the northern entrance of occupied Jerusalem where it was presumed to break the siege imposed by the Israeli occupation forces on the holy city.

Eye-witnesses said the Israeli soldiers installed a military barrier besides the military force stationed in front of the northern entrance of the holy city and intercepted the demonstrators in order to prevent the demonstration from proceeding to Jerusalem. This obliged Patriarch Sabah to hold in the street prayers he was supposed to make in one of Jerusalem's churches.
