Bahrain joins terrorism fighting campaign
Bahrain-Regional, Politics, 1/1/2002

As from next week the only frigate in Bahrain will make missions in Afghanistan during which it will escort ships transporting humanitarian aids to this country.

The Bahraini army chief of staff department said that frigate " Sabha" which was given by the US to Bahrain in 1997 " will take part in the humanitarian efforts and missions aiming at establishing stability and rebuilding Afghanistan."

The department explained the mission of the frigate which carries a crew composed of 200 personnel will include research, evacuation and evacuation operations.

Bahrain, where the fifth American fleet is stationed is the first Arab Gulf state which announces military participation in the terrorism fighting campaign, launched by the US on October 7, 2001.

The US President George Bush had raised Bahrain to the rate of " a main ally out of the NATO," after his meeting with Bahrain's crown prince Salman Bin Hamad al-Khaleifa on October 25th in Washington. During that occasion, the White House said Bahrain is the third Arab country following Egypt and Jordan which wins this " title." A matter which guarantees it strengthening military and economic cooperation with the US.
