Israel transfers polluted waters to Jordan
Jordan-Israel, Environment, 12/31/2001

The Israeli authorities have transferred the polluted waters and drainage system of Eilat city, the settlements and the factories on al-Aqaba Gulf to the Jordanian territories and this resulted in polluting large areas of the Jordanian lands and ground-waters in the area.

The Israeli radio said that polluted waters were transferred to the Jordanian territories, claiming that the " land pools" made by the Israeli authorities near the Jordanian territories were not enough to contain all large amounts of polluted and waste waters used in the houses and factories in Eilat and its suburbs.

Earlier, the Jordanian authorities complained against Israel because of the flow of waters from the settlements towards the Jordanian territories and this resulted in heavy losses in the Jordanian agricultural sector as well as to the pollution of drinking waters in the capital Amman and this by its turn greatly damaged tourism sector in Jordan.
