Gulf-Iran, Politics, 12/31/2001
The secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council GCC Jamil Hujeilan has stressed the need to have good relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and Iran.
In a statement to the Saudi daily al-Watan issued on Saturday, al-Hujeilan said that Iran is a "neighborly and Muslim country of a considerable weight at the regional and international levels," noting that despite the differences between Iran and the United Arab Emirates UAE, this matter has not prevented the UAE to be Iran's greater trade partner for Iran.
Al-Hujeilan explained the position of the GCC concerning the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iraq has not changed, but still, the GCC is committed to UN Security Council resolutions.
He indicated that reconsidering the GCC united economic agreement is necessitated by new developments towards GCC inter economic relations as well as other matters relating the GCC member stated with the outer world.
