Government source: seizure of demain magazine, seizure lifting were judiciary decisions
Morocco, Politics, 12/29/2001
An authorized source at the prime minister's office said the seizure of Moroccan weekly "Demain Magazine" and the seizure lifting were decisions made by the justice and have nothing to do with the government.
Responding to news reported by some Spanish dailies, the source told MAP it was justice that decided to seize the said weekly and to lift the seizure decision.
Some Spanish paper alleged that the paper was seized for the anti-government harsh criticism made by its director, Ali Mrabet, on December 18 during the joint press conference given by head of Spanish opposition "PSOE" party, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, and Moroccan Premier, Abderrahman Youssoufi.
Spanish daily "ABC" said the paper was seized after the publication director uttered harsh criticism against the freedom of speech in Morocco.
The authorized source said (despite the seizure move) the weekly's director continued to express his stands in all freedom.
