Yemen denies any American request to land the 'marines' on its territories
Yemen-USA, Politics, 12/29/2001

A Yemeni official source has rejected news reports which said that Yemen had received an American request for the participation of American Marines naval troopers in helping the Yemeni security forces to chase persons accused of being members in al-Qaeda organization.

In a statement made on Friday, the Yemeni source said these news are groundless and Yemen did not receive any request to this effect, besides that the Yemeni security forces are capable of shouldering its duties to controlling and containing all security violations and the outlaws as well as for consolidating peace and security in Yemen.

On the other hand, the Yemeni ministry of the interior on Friday announced it will interrogate 70 Arab and foreign students and teachers over the legality of their stay in the country and on the possibility of their involvement in terrorist acts.

The Yemeni official news agency said the Yemeni ministry of the interior did not define nationalities to which these students and teachers belong.

For its part, the September 26 paper, the mouthpiece of the ministry of defense said that investigations carried out by the authorities with Arab and foreign students and teachers aim at knowing if any of them involved in terrorist and security violation acts.
