Iraq stresses solving all standing problems with Iran

Iraq on Thursday stressed its determination to solve all problems with Iran, especially those pertaining to the prisoners, so as to open the way before good neighborly relations between the two countries.

During his meeting with an Iranian delegation led by the official for refugees at the Iranian ministry of the Interior Hujatul Islam Hassan Ali, the Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri stressed the need of joint work and cooperation in order to solve shared files for serving good neighborly relations.

Sabri added that relations linking the two neighborly countries and peoples are due to religion, history and geography factors.

The Iraqi minister praised the fruitful efforts of the Iraqi and Iranian technical delegations to carry out joint agreements. He called to quickly complete other humanitarian files. He explained that completing other matters relating to prisoners and making sure of the fate of the missing, exchanging remains of soldiers will make dealing between the two countries more flexible.

On the possibility of ensuring an opportunity to normalize relations between the two countries, Sabri indicated that there is a great and sure opportunity and the two sides are seeking to this opportunity and to work for consolidating best bilateral relations.

For his part, Hujatul Islam Hassan announced the beginning of a new page between the two countries to close all joint files to serve the interests of the peoples of Iraq and Iran.

Sabri said on Tuesday that he will visit Iran in January 2002 with the aim of dealing with the humanitarian file.
