Russian proposal to convene an international parliamentary conference on the ME
Regional-Russia, Politics, 12/28/2001

Chairman of the International affairs committee at the Russian Duma Council Dimitri Ragozin on Wednesday stressed that the Russian Duma members ( parliament members) propose the convening of a general international parliamentary conference to deal with the situation in the Middle East region.

In a statement he made on Wednesday, Ragozin said it is presumed that the proposed conference will be attended by the representatives of the ME peace process cosponsors, Russia, and the USA, the European Union and the UN.

He added that the parliamentary diplomacy does not eventually replace the official diplomacy, rather completing it and simultaneously is considered as an indicator on a state run policy. He stressed the tangible role that can be played in this regard by members of parliaments in the Middle East states and other sides concerned.
