The Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharazzi has stated that Tehran and al-Riyadh are determined to fighting terrorism seriously, stressing the need of fighting terrorism comprehensively away from doubled standards.

In a statement broadcast by the Saudi news agency on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign minister explained that there is a need to take important steps to implementing the recommendations reached by the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC towards fighting terrorism.

Kharazzi indicated that both Saudi Arabia and Iran are making important steps towards attaining the interests of their peoples and the countries of the region as well as boosting regional economic cooperation. He described the level of relations between the two countries as good.

On the other hand, the Saudi minister of commerce Osama Jaafar Faqeih discussed during his meeting with his Iranian counterpart Muhammad Shareyat Madari means of developing economic and trade cooperation relations between the two countries and preparations for the meetings of the 4th session of the Saudi-Iranian economic committee due to be held in January 2002.

Shareyat Madari had arrived in al-Riyadh on Monday within the Iranian delegation currently visiting Saudi Arabia under the chairmanship of the chairman of the Iranian Shoura council Muhammad Karoubi.

However, volume of trade exchange between al-Riyadh and Tehran in 2000 reached 498 million Saudi Riyals.
