The council, which concluded on Tuesday its 22nd session, held in Sharjah, discussed conditions in the educational and cultural institutions in the Palestinian territories and issued a communiqu? which calls upon the international community to protect the Palestinian people and take urgent measures to stop the Israeli tyrannical aggression against the Palestinian people.

The council adopted a number of decisions and recommendations pertaining to the action of the organization and to the implementation of programs and activities under the three-year action plan for 2001-2003. The executive council equally adopted the moral and financial report of the director general, the report of the audit company and the report of the financial control committee.

The council adopted other documents, including the project for the "dissemination of the culture of peace in Africa," and decided to refer the document on to the establishing of an Islamic satellite channel to the 3rd Islamic conference of culture ministers, due later this month in Doha, Qatar.

The council appointed Muhammed Hashem Faluki, from the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, as ISESCO deputy director general for a three-year mandate that starts on January 1, 2002.
