Jordanian- Omani agreement to support joint Arab work
Oman-Jordan, Politics, 12/25/2001
Oman's minister of state for foreign affairs Youssef Bin Alawi has discussed with the Jordanian acting prime minister Awad Khleifat prospects of common Arab work and backing mechanism of revitalizing it.
The two sides stressed the need of supporting the Palestinian position and the policy pursued by Yasser Arafat especially towards the establishment of peace which is based on international legitimacy resolutions and provides the foundation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as a capital.
The Omani minister on December 21st stopped in Amman on his way as coming back from Cairo after he took part in the emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers.
On the other hand, the Jordanian foreign minister Abdul Illah al-Khatin said that the events taking place in the Palestinian territories prove to the whole world that no preconditions can be impose on the Palestinians and the crisis can not be solved by military means. The Jordanian minister indicated that returning back to negotiations is the only possible way before all sides, noting that without " these negotiations the Palestinians and the Israelis will not be able to get out of the current bottleneck." He said that during the emergency meeting of the Arab foreign ministers held in Cairo Jordan gave strong political support for the Palestinians, hoping that such a support will result in a right-path move in support of the Palestinian position and leadership.
