Regional, Economics, 12/25/2001
A recent report by the Arab Organization for Agricultural development stressed continued deterioration in both quality and quantity of agricultural natural resources in various Arab states because these resources have been exposed to desertification as a result of hard exploitation of resources by intensive grazing of pastures and overuse of irrigation waters, and the lack of necessary drainage system to serve in this field.
The report also indicated the absence of appropriate programs and enough investments to maintain and improve the soil and arable lands.
The report indicated the waves of drought on most of the Arab states during the two past years. A matter which adversely effect agricultural production status, especially in dry areas and in a recession in the production of cereals, lentils; because of the decrease in cultivated areas.
