Morocco's consulate in Almeria opens monday, despite opposition by residents
Morocco-Spain, Politics, 12/24/2001

Morocco's consulate in Almeria (southern Spain) will officially open this Monday after all conditions have been met, said Moroccan consul, Mohamed Haiti. The new diplomatic representation will enable around 40,000 Moroccans living in the southern provinces of Almeria and Granada to conduct administrative formalities there without having to go to Algesiras (extreme south of Spain). It will also be working with the local businessmen wishing to do business in Morocco.

The consulate was initially scheduled to open last March in the Mediterraneo-Oliveros district but the opening was repeatedly delayed due to protests by residents. The consulate was finally located in another district.
