Maroc-telecom announces 11.5 billion dh-investment for 201-2005

Maroc-Telecom has adopted an investment plan worth 11.5 billion DH (US$ 1.04 Bln) for the 2001-2005 period to consolidate its leadership on the Moroccan telecoms market and carry on its international development.
Out of the figure, that puts Maroc-Telecom on top of Moroccan investors, more 5.5 billion DH will go to develop the land phone and internet networks through developing high-flow platforms and new services for enterprises. Another 4.5 Billion Dh will be used to consolidate the GSM existing capacities and coverage extension and 1.5 Billion DH will be invested in equipping Morocco with more public phone boots and help in breaking the isolation of rural areas.
Maroc-Telecom, with a capital of 8,790 billion DH, has reported a 14 billion DH turnover in 2001, 17% more than in 200.
Up to 10 December, the company had 4.85 million subscribers, including 1.19 million for the land phone, 3.65 for the mobile phone and 30,000 for Internet. It holds 71% of the local mobile phone market and covers 95% of the national territory.
The phone operator, in which French Vivendo owns 35%, also announced it has bought 65% of the capital of GSM Al-Maghrib, one of the GSM supply leaders.
The company which had recently bought 54% of its Mauritanian counterpart "Mauritel" said it has exceeded the Mauritanian government objectives for the mobile phone network.
