High ranking Syrian- Lebanese contacts
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 12/22/2001

The Paris based weekly al-Muharrir al-Arabi said in its Friday's issue that high ranking contacts described as very sensitive were held between Beirut and Damascus during which Israel's possibilities towards the two countries were reviewed in light of the recent Israeli air violations which had indicators on Israel's intention to carry out a pressing act against Lebanon.

European diplomatic sources in Beirut said that after containing the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements in Palestine, it has become the role of liquidating the Hizbullah party by an Israeli hand and at an American green light.

The paper said according to well-informed sources that the consultations which were held between high ranking Syrian and Lebanese officials resulted in an agreement to a series of steps relating to common confrontation of all possibilities.
