Palestinian diplomat wants mechanism to ensure Arab decisions implementation
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 12/21/2001
Wassef Mansour, Plenipotentiary minister at the Palestinian embassy in Rabat, called on Thursday the Arab states to set up a mechanism to ensure the implementation of resolutions and recommendations on Palestine taken by Arab states.
The Palestinian diplomat said the Arab extraordinary foreign ministers' session held on Thursday in Cairo is a needed move but stressed that the Arab states should go beyond new resolutions and new recommendations and move to enforce previous decisions that contain some material and political measures for the Palestinian people.
He also told the Moroccan 1st TV channel the international community should guarantee an international protection to the Palestinian people and compel Israel to end its repression. He argued the international community should force Israel to return to the negotiations in conformity with the land-for-peace principle and international resolutions, particularly resolution 242, which calls for Israel's withdrawal from territories occupied since 1967.
Israeli premier, Ariel Sharon, does not have a peace plan but has come with a war plan as peace does not make part of his lexicon, Mansour said.
