Morocco's premier: settlement of Moroccan-Spanish divergences goes through frank dialogue

The Moroccan government is determined to find a solution to all problems and misunderstandings with Spain through clear and frank dialogue, said on Wednesday Moroccan prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi.

All problems should be approached with wisdom, frankness and friendship, Youssoufi told Spanish private radio "Cadena Ser," in a comment on the recent visit to Morocco by head of the Spanish opposition "Socialist labor party," Jose Luis Zapatero.

Youssoufi who underscored the major interests shared between the two Mediterranean countries argued that Rabat and Madrid should form an essential axis in the Euro-Mediterranean space and use it to end the crisis in their relations for a deep and transparent cooperation.

The prime minister, who is first secretary of the socialist union of popular forces (USFP) said Zapatero's visit was a good opportunity to ponder on various issues of common interest and hoped that the cooperation existing between the two socialist parties will help promote a better understanding between public opinions in the two countries. Contrary to the opinions expressed in Spain, Youssoufi said the opposition leader's visit will have a positive impact on future developments in bilateral relations.

He also said it was brave on the part of Zapatero to maintain his visit despite pressures and criticism from numerous circles in Spain.
