Regional, Politics, 12/20/2001
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa has categorically dismissed reports about differences on the emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers which kicks off at the Arab League Headquarters in Cairo on Thursday. He said that he would meet with a number of ministers to discuss issues dealing with the Palestinian cause.
On the reported Syrian conditions to attend the meeting, Moussa said that the Arab League has not been informed of any conditions.
In statements on Wednesday, the Arab League Chief said that the Arab foreign ministers will give the appropriate response to attempts exerted by the Israeli diplomacy and friends of Israel to sow seeds of desperation among Arabs.
Moussa said that the Arab side will not despair, adding that a Palestinian state must be established and Israel will not be able to dictate its viewpoint under any circumstances.
On the Iraqi request to hold an Arab summit, Moussa said that the message was sent to the Arab heads of states, adding that the Arab League was waiting for responses from the Arab leaders.
He pointed out that the Arab League had distributed the message to all Arab countries according to the request of the Iraqi permanent delegate to the Arab League. Moussa said that conditions in the Arab world, especially in the Palestinian territories prompted every body to think of all ideas including holding an Arab summit.
