The new Syrian Cabinet reshuffle marks the beginning of a new phase
Syria, Politics, 12/20/2001

News reports said that the Cabinet reshuffle took place in Syria last week seemed to be the beginning of a new phase that will be witnessing a real modernization and an actual economic reform.

In its Wednesday's commentary to this effect, the London- based al-Hayat daily said:" now and after two years have passed on President Bashar al-Assad's assuming power in Syria, his march on modernization and progress has been delayed and international economic circles have been disappointed as these circles still think that the Syrian private banking sector has not come out while unemployment continues.

The paper added having members who had experiences at the World Bank and the IMF joining the new government has become the greater hope on materializing President's Assad's desire to modernizing his country's economy into a reality.
