Spanish FM Praises FTZ Creation by Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan
Regional-Spain, Politics, 12/19/2001
Spanish foreign minister, Josep Pique, praised on Monday the decision made by Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Jordan last May in Agadir (Morocco) to set up a free trade zone.
The head of the Spanish diplomacy who presented priorities for the Spanish presidency of the European Union for the second half of 2002 said this initiative should be supported.
The initiative was also supported last month by the European commissioner for external relations, Chris Patten, who expressed the Union readiness to bring technical assistance to the project. This assistance might cover financing regional infrastructures, such as inter-connecting the transports and telecommunications networks or modernizing ports infrastructures, says a source at the EU.
