Egypt-Regional, Politics, 12/18/2001

Contacts are underway to set a date for convening the Egyptian- Yemeni joint committee under the chairmanship of the two states. Similar contacts are also being made to convene the meetings of the Egyptian- Libyan joint committee suspended since 4 years. The last meeting for this committee was in Tubroq, Libya in 1997, chaired then by the Libyan President Mu'ammar al-Qaddafi and President Mubarak of Egypt.

Contacts are made to convene a series of meetings for joint bilateral cooperation committees between Egypt and other Arab countries following the Eid al-Fiter and the Christmas.

By the beginning of 2002 the Bahraini- Egyptian joint committee will meet and to be followed by a similar meeting for the Egyptian- Qatari joint committee. The two committees will be held in Cairo and chaired by foreign ministers.

Also by the beginning of 2002 the Saudi- Egyptian joint committee will hold a meeting to discuss trade and economic issues by international co-operation officials in the two countries.
