One Palestinian killed, Arafat calls for halting resistance
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 12/17/2001
The Palestinian youth Yasser al-Qasabah was killed in Qalindia camp in the West Bank because of wounds of the Israeli army bullets, as the Israeli Apatchi planes were raiding Jabalia camp for the Palestinian refugees to the north of Gaza and this resulted in destroying two houses.
Backed by tanks, the Israeli forces broke into certain areas in the Gaza and closed the coastal road at Gaza's entrance and installed barriers on several roads and occupied a Palestinian house, as Israeli officials stressed continued intensive Israeli operations against the Palestinians.
One Israeli soldier was wounded in the confrontation with the Palestinian Intifada youth to the north of Hebron and the Israeli forces detained the Palestinian army officer Ihsan Ghazi under the pretext that he was in Jerusalem without carrying a necessary licensing for this visit.
For his part, the chairman of the Palestinian authority Yasser Arafat accused the Israeli prime minister Yasser Arafat of launching an oppressive war against the Palestinian people and authority.
In a televised statement from Ramullah Arafat considered that negotiations are the only way to settle the Palestinian- Israeli issue, adding " we embark on the initiative of ceasing fire and all has to abide by this initiative." Arafat called for immediate and comprehensive halting of all armed acts in the occupied Palestinian territories especially ( suicide) operations and threatened to punish its executors.
He added that the Palestinian authority will punish all those who plan and execute operations against Israel because it will only permit to have one " authority" in the Palestinian territories.
