ISESCO denounces anti-Islam remarks by literature nobel prize Naipul
Regional-India, Religion, 12/15/2001

The Rabat-based Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) has denounced anti-Islam remarks made by Indian-born British writer, V.S. Naipul, winner of the 2001 literature prize, in an interview with Spanish daily "El Mundo."

In this interview, the writer says Muslims are people laden with hatred and rancor feelings against other peoples and nations and accuses Islam of terrorism and violence, An ISECO statement says noting that the British writer claims that the clash between Islam and the west is an evidence.

He also claims that Muslims are a danger for the international community, the statement says recalling previous libelous texts by the same author who alters facts established by history and contradicts reason and rules of writing and creation.

ISESCO which already criticized the Swedish academy for granting the Nobel prize to the British writer, denounced this racist attack against Islam which turned into a libelous campaign against Islam and the Islamic civilization.

For ISESCO, granting the Nobel prize to a writer notorious for his anti-Islam writings reflects an anti-Islam stand and an evident partial choice and harms the Swedish academy credibility.

The organization also calls Islamic countries to take a joint action against the British writer and the Swedish academy and urges all governments institutions, associations, cultural, literary and Islamic organization to condemn this orchestrated campaign hostile to Islam led by Naipul in total defiance of international law, charters, declarations and treaties that call for the respect of cultural specificities of peoples and guarantee their cultural values.
