Lebanon vows to continue with the US to fighting terrorism

The Lebanese foreign minister Mahmoud Hammoud has stressed Lebanon's continued work with the US and the UN to fighting terrorism according to international legitimacy and national sovereignty principles.
In a statement, Hammoud said he conveyed this Lebanese position to the US under secretary of State William Burns during their meeting in Beirut on Friday. Hammoud added that the Americans consider what the Hizbullah party is doing and view it as part of the Lebanese political, cultural, economic and social life.
Hammoud indicated that Burns's visit to Beirut aims at briefing the Lebanese officials with conditions in Afghanistan and the Palestinian territories and the American efforts made to finding out a solution to revive the peace process on various peace tracks on the ground of the Madrid conference terms of reference and the land for peace formula.
Burns for his part said that his talks with Hammoud were useful and part of the talks he had held with the Lebanese officials.
Burns added he held talks with Hammoud several common issues and means of supporting both the Palestinians and the Israelis to get out of the cycle of violence to the political process.
Meantime, in a telephone call with the UN secretary general, the Arab League chief Amr Moussa discussed the tense situation in the Arab territories and the Arab request proposed by the UN to convene an emergency session for the UN security council to discuss means for halting the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian people.
Moussa and the UN chief agreed on the grave situation in the Palestinian territories and the need of immediate dealing with this situation.
