Belgium co-finances drinking water project in southern Morocco

Belgium has extended Morocco a non-reimbursable assistance of 7.2 millions Euros (72.2 million DH), destined to co-finance a drinking-water supply project in Tlat Lakhsas, in the southern province of Tiznit.
Under the project, worth 102 million DH (US$ 9.27 million), a 40km network of canals will be laid out and 5 pumping stations will be set up. The project will benefit 57,500 persons.
The assistance-related accord was signed here Friday by ambassador of Belgium to Morocco, Michel Carlier, and director general of the state-owned water utility ONEP, Ali Fassi Fihri.
Belgium will contribute some 90 million DH (US$ 8.1 million) to co-finance other water projects in Tiznit and Tarfaya and other projects part of the Moroccan program of struggle against drought in southern Morocco, sources from the equipment ministry said.
