No anti-Arab feelings in Pakistan
Regional-Pakistan, Politics, 12/13/2001
In exclusive remarks to AL-Ahram, Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar Aziz said that despite the fact that Islamic countries have expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people, the Palestinians themselves should take the final and decisive political decision, to come out of the state of frustration and tension originating from the injustice embarked upon them.
He reiterated that such decision would lead to a solution, and would reduce frustration, and considered that the decision taken by the foreign minsters of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) is a continuous means to deal with the situation, adding that the decision is satisfactory, but the situation is too complex.
He also voiced hope that the international community would recognize that unless there is justice for the Palestinian people, the Middle East would be subject to aggression, restlessness and confusion.
Pakistani Foreign Minister denied the existence of anti-Arab feelings in Pakistan and Afghanistan pursuant to the role of the so-called Arab Afghans. He added that the antagonistic feelings are directed against Taliban movement and the extremists who adopted a distorted interpretation of Islam.
He pointed out that the extremists in Pakistan are not Arabs, but Pakistani, and it was Taliban government who harbored Osama Bin Laden, and therefore is to blame for the events in Afghanistan.
The Minister further said that the only advantage for Pakistan and other countries from the defeat of Taliban is that extremism was defeated, and there is an opportunity now to adopt a moderate stance on local as well as international levels.
The decision taken by the United Nations last November is excellent, as it aims at supporting a new government in Afghanistan that would follow specific principle.
We can look forward for peace in Afghanistan, and Pakistan has recognized the interim government in Afghanistan.
