Vedrine: ME backtracked for ten years because of Israeli aggression
Palestine-France, Politics, 12/12/2001
The French Foreign minister Hubert Vedrine has stressed that the Middle East has at least returned back ten years because of the continued Israeli occupation and because the Israeli and Palestinian sides did not reach any agreement.
In an interview with the French daily " Le Monde" and quoted by the Monte Carlo radio on Tuesday, The French FM added that confidence has been lost between the Palestinian and Israeli sides and no side is any more trusting the other.
He considers that Israeli is mistaken if thinks it can " jump over" the Palestinian Authority and stressed the need of founding a Palestinian state so as the Palestinian authority will be able to assume the political initiative.
Vedrine also did not rule out the idea of returning back to discussing dispatching UN observers to the Palestinian territories in order to control the situation and preserve the security of the Palestinian civilians.
