Sudan extends the state of emergency
Sudan, Politics, 12/11/2001
The Sudanese parliament has with a great majority on Sunday evening adopted a proposal submitted by President Omar al-Bashir to extend the state of emergency for one year because of the continued current position in South Sudan and the international situation following the incidents of September 11.
News reports said the Sudanese parliament listened to a message sent by President al-Bashir in which he explained the reasons behind announcing the state of emergency in 1999, noting that these reasons are still valid especially the war in southern Sudan and the special international circumstances resulting from the attacks of September 11 in the US.
