Demonstration in Brussels to support Palestinian cause

Several hundreds of persons took to the street Sunday in Brussels to voice support to the Palestinian cause and call the European Union to get more involved in the search of a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The demonstrators denounced the repressive policy of Ariel Sharon and the repeated aggressions of the Israeli army against the Palestinian population. Europe should not play the role of a spectator and should adopt a firm stand against the Israeli policy, the demonstrators said.
The demonstration was staged on the eve of a visit to Brussels of Israeli foreign minister, Shimon Perez, and Palestinian minister of international cooperation, Nabil Chaat. The two officials will make here this Monday separate presentations on the evolution of the situation in the middle East before the European foreign ministers.
Belgium is holding the EU rotating chairmanship.
