Lifting censorship off four Sudanese papers
Sudan, Politics, 12/10/2001

The Sudanese ministry of information and telecommunications has decided to lift censorship of four papers which are " Alwan" ( colors), " al-Watan" ( the homeland), al" Rai al-Akhar " ( the other's view) and " al-Khartoum monitor." This measure is part of already measures started last week to lift censorship imposed on the press.

Sudan's minister of information Mahdi Ibrahim informed the committee composed of the press council, the journalists union and chief editors of many dailies in Sudan that censorship was lifted off the four papers after their editors in chief signed the " press code of honor and co-operation " to take into account the interests of the state and the society.

The Sudanese ministry of information last week lifted censorship off 12 papers, at the directives of the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
