Arab body to address US employment body
Regional-USA, Politics, 12/8/2001
The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) will be represented by ADC President Ziad Asali who will participate as a panelist at the next meeting of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
The public meeting, to be held Tuesday, will focus on employment discrimination in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
ADC enjoys a very close working relationship with the EEOC and has forwarded to the Commission approximately 115 incidents of employment discrimination nationwide since September 11.
ADC has also provided the EEOC with 150 copies of the Unmasking Job Discrimination booklet in Arabic and English, and worked with EEOC officials in coordinating Vice Chair Paul Igasaki's meetings with the Arab-American community in Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, and Chicago among others.
Since September 11, the EEOC has taken an active role in urging employers to promote tolerance and guard against unlawful workplace bias and harassment based on religion, ethnicity, and national origin.
