Eritrea says it is attacked by Ethiopia
Ethiopia-Eritrea, Politics, 12/8/2001

Asmara on Thursday announced that some of its police and militia positions stationed in the outskirts of " Du'fi" to the ( South of Eritrea) were exposed to an Ethiopian military attack led by a contingent composed of 250 soldiers. But Asmara did not announce the outcome of the losses in its lines nor in the lines of the attacking Ethiopian forces.

The chairman of the Eritrea's military co-ordination commission Indi Burhan Wildi Qarqis said in a tough letter to the UN peace keeping forces:" Ethiopian forces composes of 250 soldiers held a military attack at the Eritrea's police and militia forces positioned in Qaqo ( zeqt) area situated in the outskirts of Du'fi in the souther district on last Saturday morning." He explained that the Indian unit working within the UN and stationed in the said area followed up the Ethiopian attack and submitted a report to this effect to the UN military command.

Qarqis accused Ethiopia of invading new Eritrean territories in Kolt, Qarana and Mankhsito and of expanding its military moves and strengthening its forces by new units and backing these units by heavy weapons and armored vehicles, noting that this will endanger the peace process between the two sides..
