Jordanian Islamists and the dialogue with Jews
Jordan-Israel, Politics, 12/8/2001

The secretary general of the Islamic labor party front in Jordan Abdul Latif Arabeyyat has announced he and his party do not oppose maintaining a dialogue with the Jews.

In a statement to the Jordanian weekly al-Itijah ( the direction) issued today, he said that Islam calls for dialogue, but he stressed he does not recognize the " Zionist entity."

Arabeyyat deliberately denied news which said that Jordanian Muslim brothers group had visited the American embassy in Amman and started a dialogue with it, noting he met previously with the former American ambassador for several times and had several dialogues with him outside the embassy.

However, one of the key Islamic figures in Jordan, Sheikh Abdul Menem Abu Zanat considered in a similar statement to the paper statements of Arabeyyat as a sin and a mistake and they bring disobedience.

Abu Zanat explained the idea of having a dialogue with Jews has been settled since hundreds of years at the political and religious levels because the Jews betrayed their oath with prophet Muhammad and violated the norms.
