Morocco made country of the year by USTDA
Morocco, Politics, 12/7/2001
The US Trade and Development Agency (TDA) on Thursday awarded Morocco the Prize of Country of the Year to reward the country's performance in economic development in 2001.
The Price was handed by TDA director, Thelma J. Askey to Moroccan economy, finance, privatization and tourism minister, Fathallah Oualalou, at a ceremony attended by US ambassador to Morocco, Ms. Margaret Tutwiler.
Oualalou lauded the partnership ties binding Morocco and the US agency and stressed that awarding the Prize to Morocco is evidence to the trust the Agency and the US has in Morocco.
Ms. Askey said the Prize was awarded to Morocco after tough competition with China. This shows that the country is making laudable efforts to modernize and develop its economic fabric.
She added that the level of development reached by Morocco makes of it a model for other countries in the region.
TDA on Thursday extended Morocco a $ 325,000 donation that will finance a feasibility study on transition to a new system of control of air traffic security.
