Yemeni President in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia-Yemen, Politics, 12/7/2001

A Saudi official source said that the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday in an official visit which will last for two days during which he will hold talks with the Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and crown prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz dealing with developments in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Saudi source said the Yemeni President will discuss with the Saudi officials means " of coordinating inter- Arab stances to withstand developments on the Palestinian arena and the aggressions launched by the Israeli forces against the Palestinian people."

The source continued that during this visit the Yemeni President will perform the " minor al-Haj rituals " ( al-Omra) and will brief King Fahd and crown prince Abdullah with the " results of talks he recently held in the US, Germany and France." The Yemeni president will also discuss with the Saudi crown prince " developments of the campaign launched by the US against terrorism in Afghanistan."

The Yemeni President has condemned the recent Israeli aggression against the West Bank and Gaza and called for ensuring the protection of the Palestinian people and to pressure Israel in order to restore back the rights of the Palestinians to establish their own independent state.

In a telephone call on Tuesday, the Saudi crown prince and the Yemeni President discussed current developments in the region, foremost being the Israeli aggression which targeted the headquarters of the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian Authority.

Last Friday in Paris, the Yemeni President said he opposes the expansion of the war in Afghanistan to cover other states, stressing he got assurances to this effect from countries he had visited.
